1996 - Pete begins writing autobiography. Is researching his past,
including his suspicions about his own abuse. Does Quadrophenia tour with The Who,
hires Gary Glitter. He looks into donating to Russian
orphanages, finds disturbing web sites. 1997 - Glitter's arrest. Pete begins experimenting with checking out the child porn out there on the net. Is also concerned with his own therapy regarding his own experiences. At some point, he uses his credit card to access the Texas site. Whether he is actually charged is unclear to me, although if he WAS charged, he certainly would have known it by the time he wrote "A Different Bomb". He starts writing about his position on child porn, not only in his book but as a separate piece, as mentioned in "Bomb". He contacts his friend from Scotland Yard as well as his lawyer friend. Pete reveals in Mojo magazine that he was sexualy abused. 1998-2001 - Pete working with The Who, on his book, etc. In 2000, the Texas child porn ring is busted. Some point between October 2001 & Spring 2002 - U.S. authorities hand over a list of 7,272 names of people who were found in the database of Landslide Productions. Pete's name is on the list. Jan 2002 - Pete's friend kills herself. He decides it's a crusade and publishes "A Different Bomb". He doesn't want to wait until his book is finished. 2002 - Pete continues to write, investigate and post a few things on his site. Summer 2002 - Police in Britain begin the first arrests in connection with the names turned over by US athorities. August-November 2002 - Pete writes the Internet Watch Foundation several times complaining about the site he viewed. Jan 2003 - Word is leaked to the media that a "multi-millionaire rock star with 3 kids" is on the list. Following the rules of damage control, Pete speaks out immediately, admits some wrong wrong-doing and tells the truth. Jan 19 2003 - PeteTownshendIsInnocent.com is born. May 07 2003 - Pete receives a Caution and is not charged with a crime. Police state that after nearly 4 months of investigating, they found no evidence the Pete was in possession of child pornography. - Today. |
